You Don't Need Another Blueprint — You Need to Know Your Own Direction

So much advice gets shared about the "right" way to run a business. And so much of it contradicts itself.

Do one-to-one work. Don't do one-to-one work. Memberships are the way forward. Memberships are dead. Evergreen courses are the answer. Evergreen courses don't work anymore. Post every day. Posting every day doesn't work. Free masterclasses will grow your business. Free content doesn't convert anymore.

It's no wonder it all feels so overwhelming. And when you try one of these "magical solutions" and it doesn't work for you, it's easy to end up thinking that you're the problem.

Why Strategies Don't "Just Work"

Here's the thing though — it's not that these strategies don't work. Most people sharing something online are sharing what has genuinely worked for them, specifically. That's exactly why they're sharing it.

The problem starts when we blindly adopt someone else's strategy or business model without really thinking it through — just because it worked for them, so surely it should work for us too. That's usually where things start to unravel.

And you can see the evidence of this everywhere, in just how much contradicting advice is out there. If there were one right way, there wouldn't be this much noise. The truth is, there isn't one right path. There are countless different approaches, and what works for one person might not work for you at all — and that doesn't mean anything has gone wrong.

So What Should You Listen To?

Again, there's no single right answer — because it isn't about finding the one correct strategy. It's about what your business currently needs, what aligns with you, your strengths, and your vision.

When you approach it from that angle, it becomes so much more sustainable. Because when you're just following outside advice, you can end up feeling like you've failed when it doesn't work. But it's also often a huge cause of overwhelm — constantly trying to do more, working against your own strengths and your own capacity. Of course that leads to exhaustion. Of course it leaves you disconnected from your own business, because you're not working in a way that actually feels right to you. It stops feeling like your business, and starts feeling like someone else's.

Start With Your Own Direction

So what can you do instead?

It starts with taking a step back and really connecting to yourself first. The stronger you feel in your own core — what you want to create, who you want to work with, what your strengths are, how you like to work — the easier it becomes to find strategies that actually fit.

Once you know your direction, you can add to it meaningfully. If you want flexibility, maybe a membership model suits you. If connection is your strength, maybe one-to-one work is a better fit. There's nothing inherently right or wrong about any of these approaches — you can make almost anything work if it feels aligned for you.

Trial, Error, and Curiosity

Of course, there's a trial and error phase. If you don't know yet whether you enjoy one-to-one work, you need to test it. If you're not sure how to attract the right people to an offer, you need to try a few things.

But there's a real difference between experimenting with curiosity and forcing something because "it has to work." When you approach it from "let's see what works for me," rather than "this worked for someone else so it has to work for me," you take the pressure off. You also stop comparing — because you can't really compare your business to someone else's anyway. Different business model, different working hours, different team, different financial resources, different strengths and capacity.

You can only test based on your own direction, your own strengths, and your own alignment. And then, step by step, with curiosity, notice what's working and what isn't — without seeing it as a personal failure. Maybe something worked really well and fits your personality, so you do more of that. Maybe something didn't work, and that's worth being curious about too — is it something to tweak, or simply not the right approach for you, even if it works for others?

This trial and error phase matters, especially early on. You don't yet know what's going to work. So take in the advice, stay open, but hold it with curiosity rather than pressure — try it, then reflect.

That's how you build your own strategies — ones that are genuinely personal to you, instead of copying what everyone else is doing. First connect to yourself. Then add to it meaningfully.
